$750K Awarded To Man In Workplace Personal Injury Suit

The Missouri Lake Gazette reports a man has been awarded $750,000 for injuries suffered in 2004 while working for Pace Industries (now known as Leggett & Pratt) in Monroe City, MO.

The suit was filed against Leggett & Platt for failing to provide proper primary protective equipment and for not informing the workers wearing Vinex shirts of the shirts’ protective limitations. Cintas Corporation, which provides uniforms to Leggett & Pratt and is also the maker of the uniform the man was wearing at the time he was injured, was also named in the suit.

The suit alleged the man suffered severe burns on his neck, chest, back, arms and hands while he was pouring melting aluminum at Pace’s die casting line. While cleaning the ladle used in pouring the molten aluminum, molten aluminum splashed out of the pot and severely burned him, requiring he undergo debridement and skin grafts.

The jury found Cintas and the employee were each 5% responsible for the accident and Leggett & Pratt was 90% at fault.
