Tuesday, March 29th, 2011
The husband of a woman who is the fourth Southern California patient to die following a Lap-Band surgical procedure has filed a medical malpractice and wrongful death lawsuit, reports the LA Times.
The 50-year-old Simi Valley woman died on July 26th following weight loss surgery at Valley Surgical Center in West Hills, a clinic connected to 1-800-GET-THIN. The lawsuit names the two surgeons who performed the surgery, 1-800-GET-THIN, Valley Surgical Center, Simi Valley Hospital and the doctors who treated her there following her surgery.
According to the lawsuit, the woman’s liver was lacerated three times during the Lap-Band procedure and she was discharged shortly after without being informed of the injury. She was diagnosed at Simi Valley Hospital with sepsis and was treated with antibiotics when she was seen there complaining of severe pain.
Heart failure, with liver lacerations and morbid obesity as contributing factors, is listed on her death certificate as the cause of death.
