Lawsuit Against City and Zoo Filed Over Dog Bite

Chattanooga Times Free Press reports a Hixson woman and her husband have filed a lawsuit against the Chattanooga Zoo and the city following a dog bite last year.

On December 10, 2009, the woman entered the kitchen of the administration building to fulfill her cleaning contract when she was severely bitten on her thigh by the administrator’s Great Dane.  The wound became infected and she had to have surgery and ongoing medical treatment. 

The lawsuit asks for $450,000 for injury, medical costs, pain and suffering, and punitive damages.  It states the owner should have known the dog was dangerous and should have contained it.  Three other employees claim the dog had bitten them, and in June WRCB-TV reported a judge had ordered the owner not to bring the dog to work.
