$3 Million Awarded To Mother Whose Baby Was Injured During Birth
Thursday, November 11th, 2010
The Chicago Sun-Times reports a Pilsen woman has been awarded $3.27 million by a Cook County jury in her lawsuit against the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group and the doctor who delivered her baby.
In 2002 it was known the woman was expected to deliver a large baby. The woman’s lawsuit alleged her doctor, Dr. Jennifer Friedman, did not advise her of the risk of having a vaginal delivery with such a large baby and did not offer her the option of having a C-section. As a result, her son’s shoulder got stuck during delivery and the doctor pulled too hard on the infant’s head and neck, causing injury to his right arm.
Since his birth, the now 8-year-old has had to have three surgeries and still does not have full function in his arm.
